One of the most popular franchises on the Xbox has just reached a new milestone, in its entirety, 19 Million copies have been sold! The records for how much each game has sold individually are kept tight, combined, Gears 1 and 2 both reached 12 Million, with that being said, we can assume that Gears of War 3 has sold 7 Million copies.
The original title came out in November of 2006, and to think that just 6 years later they’ve solve that many copies is insane, leaving to question how much the franchise itself is actually worth. Rumors of movies have always been around, a board game is out there, I’ve seen trading cards, and even action figures and gun replicas. With numbers like this, and the fourth game in the series, Gears of War: Judgment scheduled to release in March 19, 2013, why would Cliff Bleszinski leave? If the first two games sold 12 Million copies, and your 3rd game sold more than half of that, calculations are looking like by this time next year, we will end up seeing well over 16 Million copies sold. Looking at Gears of War 3 selling 7 Million, and a estimate of 8 Million for Judgement, every thing points at a great success! Chances are high it will end up making a more than that, but it still doesn’t stop the fact that Cliff left and is making his rounds at various other companies, just as I was writing this, he tweeted a picture inside the Valve offices.
This isn’t about him anyways so let us simply embrace this milestone, and think about all of the wonderful gibs we’ve seen within the franchise, and wait to continue the tradition with Judgement in March 2013!
