Let me start off by saying that I have not played the Wii U, or even touched a Nintendo product in well over a year. Traditionally I would take a DS with me when I travel, and thinking back, my latest trip involved a laptop and no DS…
Now what the hell happened?! I was one of the most loyal fans, I never owned a Sony (gaming) product until the PS3, which I didn’t even buy, I won. So truthfully, had I not won it, I until this day, would not own a Sony console. I remember defending cartridges! Then felt betrayed when the GameCube was released!
Before the downfall of Nintendo in my life, I would like to highlight some of the most precious moments I’ve had with them. If it wasn’t for games like GoldenEye 007 or Perfect Dark on the N64, you wouldn’t have your Halo’s or Call of Duty’s of today! I remember having multiple gaming marathons as a child during school break, most of the time with my cousins. Playing multiplayer all night long until someone passed out was the way to do things. Everyone in the same room, playing in a small quadrant of the television, oh the good old days!
Today? Join my Xbox Live Party! Visit no one! Play from home! Granted sure, it does make life a lot easier, how can you not miss those moments? These are moments that only the Nintendo could provide. As far back as I can remember, that experience couldn’t be replicated until Halo came out. Sadly though, at that point I was hardcore Nintendo still! Which explains why I’m not a Halo fan. I did give it a chance, I have had plenty of time to play them as well, but sadly none of them really caught my attention. This isn’t about Microsoft though, this is about Nintendo!
My true love came from the SNES, of course, Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past, and also Link’s Awakening. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy Mario Bros or anything like that, but Zelda was the first game I recall affecting me with its story. It wasn’t until a few years later that Ocarina of Time came out, and that sealed the deal with Nintendo! My most favorite game of all time! I could go on and on about this but I just needed to vent a little about my memories with Nintendo as the Wii U recently launched and I sadly have no interest in it.
All of the 3DS hype and this Wii U nonsense makes me sad, and the other day sho220 and I were talking about the future of Nintendo. Personally I think this will be Nintendo’s last console, though I hope it isn’t I do believe this will happen. They are still doing great with their handhelds, but with the way mobile phones are going… who knows! The gimmicks can only go so far! Everyone already buys a smartphone, and carries it with them daily, why bother getting something else? Just give me a portable version of a console with stunning visuals, and affordable games, let’s just leave it at that though, before I go out and buy a Wii U to just have some hope.
