Mechs? Soccer? Shooter? Blastball was just debut at Nintendo World Championship 2015 in Los Angeles.
Blastball pairs you with 2 other team mates against another team of 3 on Nintendo’s vision of what Soccer would be like in a mech-type world. Each team starts off on their side of the goal and await for a ball to drop in the middle. They then have to shoot the ball into the opposing teams goal. Sounds easy, but there are charge shots, shields, power ups, and power plays when your health gets drained.
During the last round of gameplay we also saw the level attack the users by tossing out a lava ball! This ball did more damage to players and had a burning effect.
Each time you scored a goal, the goal became smaller, first to 3 goals wins!
Kevin Pereira, of G4 Attack of the Show fame, who also hosted the Nintendo World Championship joked saying “This is what it takes American’s to enjoy soccer.”
Although the crowd seemed pretty silent watching this, it seems like a game you would just have to play to enjoy. Perhaps because it was new and no one knew what to expect people didn’t really know what to cheer at? Or maybe I’m just giving it the benefit of the doubt.
