Over the years, Scott Pilgrim, a graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O’Malley, has transcended its medium, entering into both the film and gaming world. Anyone familiar with the series knows how strong an influence video games and pop culture have on it. It was only a matter of time before Mr. Pilgrim had his own video game.

In an homage to the classics that inspired it, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game is a 16-bit romp that has players fighting their way through evil ex-boyfriends in order to win over the lovely Ramona Flowers. Not only do the graphics harken back to the good old SNES days, but the music does also. Anamanaguchi, an electronic indie band from New York, composed the music and boy did they nail it. It will instantly transport you back to the magical time of Nintendo home consoles and arcade beat ’em ups. It’s the perfect blend of old school and new.
