Gift Guide Day 2 from Mark B!

Welcome to the second day of our Holiday Gift Guide! Today we feature Mark B’s picks for must own games this holiday season. Mark is the resident Sony user on DRUL, so it was to no surprise that the majority of his picks are from there. Trying to switch things up because we saw yesterday that Alan is for the most part the PC gamer. That being said, the rest of us are a bit mixed with PC, Console and Handheld. We’ll see once everyone’s picks are listed!

Now for Day 2 of our Holiday Gift Guide, let’s see what Mark B has to say about a couple of his picks!

[toggle_box title=”The Unfinished Swan” width=”Width of toggle box”]1. The Unfinished Swan – As I said in my review, this is a fantastic game. It is wildly imaginative and innovative. The game, though short and sweet, captures that elusive childhood feeling of curiosity and wonder that we strive to find again. This is a quick two hour game that is enjoyable from page one all the way through the last turn.

Halo 4 – It’s no surprise that this is on my top games of the year list. The Halo series has always been near and dear to me. I can remember all-nighters with my friends, playing Team Slayer and Capture the Flag. The latest installment by newcomers, 343 Industries, is surprisingly one of the best, if not THE best in the franchise. The game feels whole, offering a ton of multiplayer depth as well as a blockbuster-size campaign with arguably the best story to date. This is a must own (even for you, Oscar).

[box_dark]Editor’s Note: Yeah, I’m not a Halo fan, sorry! Those same memories you shared with friends I’ve experienced time and time again, from Goldeneye 64, to Unreal Tournament, and even Call of Duty. Despite not playing Halo 4, I’m sure the campaign is amazing as they were in the previous titles I have played. Sticking to what I’ve told everyone, I have never purchased a Halo game, each of the games from the series I played has been given to me as a gift or earned through work. That being said, I do not see myself owning this game any time soon. Sorry to disappoint! [/box_dark]

[button link=”http://amzn.to/11tlru9″ variation=”sky”]Buy This Game[/button] [/toggle_box] [toggle_box title=”Journey” width=”Width of toggle box”]3. Journey – This short PSN game by developers, thatgamecompany, gets my vote for Game of the Year. This is not so much a game as it is a piece of art. From its gorgeous soundtrack to its jaw-dropping visuals, Journey is an unforgettable experience. The multiplayer aspect is what makes this game stand out. Players drop in and out seamlessly. No names, no gamertags, no mics–this is as stripped down as it gets. This minimalism works perfectly for the game, as you and your cooperative stranger wonder through rolling sand hills and avoid carpet creatures. This isn’t a game for adrenaline junkies, but if you want to experience something different, something new, something beautiful, pick up Journey.

[button link=”http://amzn.to/SHCF1D” variation=”sky”]Buy This Game[/button] [/toggle_box] [toggle_box title=”LittleBigPlanet: Vita” width=”Width of toggle box”]4. LittleBigPlanet: Vita – For all Playstation Vita owners, this is the game you’ve been waiting for. Those familiar with the LittleBigPlanet series know what they are getting here. But it’s so much more than just a handheld port. This version was tailor made for the Vita. It uses all of handheld’s features like motion control, front and rear touch, and even the camera. And best of all, none of these features are used in a gimmicky way–they feel completely natural. The game is a great value, as it offers players a lot of content. After the quirky main storyline is done, completionists will want to go back and collect all the bonus stickers and attempt to Ace the levels. Aside from the main story and its challenges, the game has an entire world of user-submitted levels. The best part is, they are cross-platform compatible. All the previous made levels from LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2 on the PS3 are available to play. Players can also create their own levels right on the Vita. LittleBigPlanet Vita is the definition of fun and offers tons of gameplay.

[button link=”http://amzn.to/UkZZCl” variation=”sky”]Buy This Game[/button] [/toggle_box] [toggle_box title=”Rayman Origins: Vita” width=”Width of toggle box”]5. Rayman Origins: Vita – Yet another great title for all you Vita owners. This is a fantastic 2D platforming game that comes with a lot of replay value. Each level is varied and switches things up from the one before it, making it feel new and exciting each time. The colors pop off the screen and really show what the Vita can do. If you’re into platformers, Rayman Origins on the Vita is the game for you.

Oz plays Rocket League and is very bad at it, but at least he tries. As long as there are games to talk about, he's in his happy place.
