Since it's release a few weeks ago, Godzilla has earned the title "King Of The Monsters" raking in over $300 million so far. Money alone is no indication of a films actual worth though; people forget that the abysmal 1998 Godzilla film actually made a ton of money itself. So what sets the newest American incarnation of the big G apart from the last one? Why is this one the start of a lucrative franchise whereas the previous film spawned nothing more than a crappy cartoon?
